Tokyo, March 2, 2013
Dear President Mikhail Gorbachev,
With reference to my letter dated February 16, 2013, I am sending you
the two urgent appeals in Russian released by the Japan Society for
Global System and Ethics, after the great earthquake and Tsunami that
destroyed a large part of North East Japan on March 11 of 2011, and the
succeeding nuclear accident.
They plead for a United Nations Ethics Summit to be held and an
International Day of Global Ethics to be created. The second appeal
pleads for making 3.11 an International Day of Global Ethics.
As stated in the enclosed Press Release of the Society, the World
Federation of UNESCO Clubs is to declare 3.11 as the UNESCO World Day of Global Ethics on March 11, 2013 in Florence, Italy.
The next meeting of the Federation will take place in Washington in
March next year. I cherish a hope that a substantial step forward will
be made toward the pending UN Ethics Summit by that time. I am informed
of the efforts now being made to persuade the US Congress.
In this connection, I firmly believe that your response to this project will be decisive.
Please allow me to count on your moral support.
With heighest and warmest regards,
Mitsuhei Murata
Executive Director, Japan Society for Global System and Ethics
