Tokyo, September 7, 2014

Dear President Jimmy Carter,

I hope everything goes alright with you.

I am sending you the summary of my new paper on Fukushima.
This is a cry for help from Japan not knowing how best to cope with Fukushima.

Fukushima has shown that the presence of nuclear reactors itself constitutes a security problem, because, if the cooling system of the pool containing used fuel rods gets out of order for more than 3 days, a meltdown could start. An outstanding Japanese journalist has recently sent me a message in which he expresses his total agreement with this point of view.

I am expecting the world to stand up to cope with the worsening crisis of Japan and of the world.

Reactions to my paper are notably expanding.
Former Swiss President Moritz Leuenberger, Prof.Ernst von Weizsaecker, Professor Mousseau and an American friend have sent me the attached mails. Professor Mousseau’s comment highlights the importance of the solidarity of global citizens to better the world.

I believe the protection of the health of the residents of the West Coast  could soon become a huge political issue.
The approaching publication of the studies in question by Nature will be of great importance.

Please allow me to count on your understanding and support.

With highest and warmest regards,
Mitsuhei Murata

(Former Swiss President)

"Dear Mitsuhei Murata
I admire Your enthusiasm and endurance. Congratulations for Your
excellent paper.
Please keep up Your good and important work-. Your voice must be heard in
Japan!!
Sincerely,
Moritz Leuenberger
Former Minister for Transport, Environment, Energy and Communications,
Former President of the Swiss Confederation"

(Kate Winter, Descendant of Commodore Perry)

"dear mitsuhei,
so true, so well written, so terrifying!!
showed it to a harvard classmate who is a writer, intellectual and former diplomat.
her comment was that she was already worried but now much more so.
how can japan reverse centuries of not wanting to lose face or admit mistakes, miss information etc. etc,??
i would so wish that the games would be canceled."

(Professor Ernst von Weizsaecker)
"Thank you, very good and timely paper!

(Professor Timothy Mousseau)
Dear Ambassador Murata,
Thank you for sharing this. I think it is important. I have been quite amazed by how large an impact an individual or small group of people can have on shaping global perceptions and policies. I used to think that one in 6 billion was a very small number but I see now that one is simply the minimum unit of social impact and that even just one can lead the rest to positive change if the message is compelling and effectively communicated.
In any case, I applaud your efforts to share your concerns and wish you the best in this effort.
Best wishes,
Tim

I hope all goes alright for you.

I am sending you my message addressed to President Carter.
I have sent the same one to Vice President Al Gore.

Japan knows more than any other country the real and present dangers of nuclear reactors.
It is a serious security problen that the mainstream of the world continue to promote nucler power generation even after Fukishima, totally ignoring its lessons.

Even Japan has not revised the basic nuclear law, intended to promote nuclear power generation as a national policy !
Her governability is now questioned.
The fate of the world will be decided by electric companies,if no drastic change takes place.

Japan faces serious shortage of labor throughout the country.
The number of daily necessary workers at the site of Fukushima Daiichi is increasing. It was 2950 last year. This year, it increased from 4000 in February to 5730 in July. It will surpass 6000 in September. Tokyo Olympic Games will badly affect the difficult procurement of workers at the site. Under such circumstances,it already looms as a fantasy.
Maximum efforts are not being made by Japan. This is exactly evidenced by Tokyo Olympic Games.

The problem of protecting the security of the residents of the West Coast will soon awaken the world to the  uncotrollable and spreading consequences of the Accident. The impact of the publication of Nature will be great.

Something must be done to avert the  ultimate catastrophe.
We cannot deny that Fukushima,if badly managed, could become the beginning of it.
Please allow me to count on your understanding and support.

With warmest regards,
Mitsuhei Murata

I am happy about your persistence and quest for truth seeking and I commend you for that.
I have been a little overwhelm by my multiple responsibilities but things are now under control and I promise you to stay engaged.
I'll review and spread your message around the world.
Sincerely
Guy DJOKEN
(Executive Director,UNESCO Center for Peace)

Thank you for your encouraging message.
I am reminded of the comment of Professor Thimothy Mousseau I introduced in my message to President Carter.
" I have been quite amazed by how large an impact an individual or small group of people can have on shaping global perceptions and policies. I used to think that one in 6 billion was a very small number but I see now that one is simply the minimum unit of social impact and that even just one can lead the rest to positive change if the message is compelling and effectively communicated."
Let us strengthen the solidarity of global citixens like ourselves to tackle the impending crisis, as suggested by Professor Mousseau.

The circle of support is widening as shown by the mails attached below.

With warmest regards,
Mitsuhei

Dear Mitsuhei,
Thank you very much for sharing with me the messages you have addressed to President Carter and Vice President Al Gore.
For my part, I was glad Prime Minister Modi was unable to reach an agreement with your government on the nuclear reactors.  The dangers of another Fukushima are very real.
Of course, you can fully count on my understanding and support.
With regards,
Mani

(From Mr. Martin Vosseler,Co-Founder of IPPNW-Switzerland)
Dear Mitsuhei,
