Dear Ambassador Caroline Kennedy,
I wish to express my heartfelt congratulations on the great success of
President Obama’s historic visit to Hiroshima. You have played a
decisive role in realizing the long awaited visit.
President Obama’s deeply philosophical speech captivated the heart of
the Japanese. His respect for life reflected his maternal way of
thinking that alone could save the ailing world menaced by the paternal
way of thinking.
I was very happy to hear his closing words “the start of our own moral
awakening”, for the establishment of global ethics is certainly the
beginning of the process toward his vision of denuclearization.
After his visit to Hiroshima, he can now be regarded as the symbol of
hope for the future, just like President John F. Kennedy was. I am
convinced your father’s legacy will continue to be safeguarded by you,
as shown by President Obama’s visit to Japan.

この度のオバマ大統領の歴史的広島訪問の大成功をこころからお祝い申し上げます。貴大使はかねてより待望されていたこの訪問の実現に決定的な役割を果たされました。
オバマ大統領の深遠な哲学に裏打ちされた演説は日本国民の心を捉えました。同大統領の生命重視は母性文化的思考形態を反映するものであり、この思考形態のみが父性文化的思考形態により危険にさらされてされているこの病める世界を救うことができるのです。
演説の最後に「私達が道徳的に目覚めることの始まり」との締めくくりの言葉を聞いた時、誠に嬉しく思いました。何故ならば地球倫理の確立こそオバマ大統領の核廃絶のヴィジョンへ向かう過程の出発点だからです。
広島訪問を終えられた今、オバマ大統領はケネディ大統領の場合同様に未来への希望の象徴とみなし得るようになりました。貴大使はご尊父の遺産をこの度のオバマ大統領の日本訪問で示されたように守り続けて行かれるものと確信いたします。
